Remind Secures Green Talents Award 2021 for Sustainable Innovation

Green Talents Award

Green Talents Award honors young researchers making a global impact.

Remind (Recycling Materials Indonesia), led by its founder Muhammad Dzikri Ahira Soefihara, a Master’s graduate from TU Delft, received the Green Talents Award 2021 for its groundbreaking work in sustainable e-waste recycling. The award, presented by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), recognizes outstanding young researchers dedicated to advancing sustainability.

Dzikri Soefihara’s mission to tackle Indonesia’s electronic waste crisis.

Dzikri Soefihara has been at the forefront of tackling Indonesia’s escalating electronic waste (e-waste) challenges. Through ReMIND, he has been developing innovative recycling solutions aimed at reducing environmental pollution while recovering valuable materials from discarded electronics. His work emphasizes sustainable processing methods to mitigate health and ecological risks associated with hazardous e-waste components, such as heavy metals.

How Remind is transforming e-waste into valuable resources.

In 2020, Dzikri initiated a self-funded team project with five young scientists to establish a pilot recycling plant in Karawang, Indonesia. The team successfully conducted experiments to extract precious metals from e-waste, proving the feasibility of sustainable recycling in the country. Their long-term vision is to scale up this initiative to an industrial level, contributing to Indonesia’s circular economy and supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production.

Global Recognition and Future Prospects

Winning the Green Talents Award 2021 has provided Dzikri with international recognition and expanded opportunities for collaboration with global sustainability experts. This achievement strengthens Remind’s mission to develop an effective and environmentally friendly e-waste management system in Indonesia.
